WhatsApp Now Supports Automatic Message Deletion After 24 Hours or 90 Days
WhatsApp now gives you more control over your disappearing messages by allowing you to set it to delete automatically after 24 hours or 90 days. The company initially launched this feature last year with a single option—7 days. Additionally, the Meta-owned company is adding the option to automatically enable disappearing messages for all new chats.
Once the Disappearing Messages option is enabled and the duration is specified, all new chats will be automatically deleted at the time specified. WhatsApp has added the same feature to group chats as well. It's worth noting that enabling this feature will have no effect on existing conversations. You will still need to delete those chats manually to keep them private from prying eyes.
Last year, WhatsApp introduced the Disappearing Messages feature. Once enabled, it would automatically delete all messages from chats on both the phone and the servers after a period of seven days. The popular messaging app now offers two additional duration options: 24 hours and 90 days. After all, as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated, "not all messages must persist in perpetuity."
You won't have to worry about offending your friends by enabling this feature. WhatsApp will notify everyone that this is the default setting you've selected. Additionally, your messages are not doomed to perish in perpetuity. By resuming chats with loved ones, you can retain your cherished messages.Disappearing Messages can be enabled easily by first updating WhatsApp to the latest version. Then navigate to WhatsApp Settings > Account > Privacy > Default message timer on your app. You can now specify the time period for which you want your messages to be deleted.
You should, however, be aware that any "risky messages" you send can be screenshotted and saved. After the duration you specify, the Disappearing Messages feature will ensure that the messages are deleted from your phone and servers. Additionally, if someone forwards your chat to another user without enabling disappearing messages, the forwarded message will not be deleted. As a result, you will still need to exercise caution when sending messages via chat. On the plus side, you will no longer be able to re-read embarrassing texts you previously sent. Unless your friends have already screenshotted it.
